# 25 Days of Zero Support: New Mexico's Leaders Forget the Troops Fighting for Our Freedoms

New Mexico is a military state. DoD employs roughly **24,600** active-duty personnel, civilians, Guard, and Reserve across Kirtland AFB, Holloman AFB, Cannon AFB, White Sands Missile Range, Air Force Research Lab, Space Force, and Global Strike Command. Add **family members** (typically 2.5 per member): **\~61,500**. Add **124,674 veterans** (7.5% of civilian adults): **\~186,174 total pro-military households**. That’s nearly **10% of New Mexico’s 2.1 million population**—a massive voting bloc whose freedoms are defended daily by NM servicemembers now facing Iran’s missile barrages and proxy threats. Since the Iran conflict started 25 days ago, New Mexico’s congressional delegation—Sens. Martin Heinrich, Ben Ray Luján, Reps. Teresa Leger Fernández, Melanie Stansbury, Gabe Vasquez—has been **silent** on supporting our troops. No “good luck,” “be safe,” “return with honor,” or acknowledgment of NM’s three major bases, Guard/Reserve, AFSOC at Cannon, or labs under threat. ## Moral drainer

This isn’t oversight—it’s a pattern. New Mexicans in uniform fight a massive foe (Iran’s proxies, missiles, drones), defending freedoms their leaders enjoy daily. NM’s delegation chose ideology over duty: criticize Trump, demand resolutions, ignore the Americans in harm's way. **Leaders: your job is to represent *all* New Mexicans, including those serving. A simple “stay safe, thank you” costs nothing but shows backbone. Silence betrays the state that needs them most.**

Meanwhile, as NM troops deploy against Iranian threats, Sens. Luján and Rep. Stansbury found time to wish Muslims “joy, peace, and celebration” for Eid al-Fitr. No such public support for Cannon AFSOC, Kirtland cyber warriors, or Holloman pilots. 186,000+ pro-military New Mexicans notice the silence.

NM is 63% Christian (27% Catholic) and \~1% Muslim but our leaders celebrate Muslim holidays while ignoring troops.
