Look Who Rep Stansbury and the DNC Are Promoting Now

From Stansbury's campaign trail photos to DNC leadership's pledges, national Democrats are getting cozy with the Democratic Socialists of America. New Mexico voters should read the fine print on what that movement actually wants to take away.

If you are a New Mexico voter—especially a traditional, working-class Democrat—take a close look at who your congressional representative and national party leaders are promoting this election cycle.

On October 20, New Mexico Rep. Melanie Stansbury posted photos from the campaign trail alongside Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. "Everything is on the line this election!" Stansbury wrote, explaining that she is "traveling the country to help win back the House."

Who is Angie Nixon? In June 2026, in the middle of her Senate campaign, Nixon officially joined the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

And Stansbury is hardly alone in embracing her:

The Democratic establishment and the DSA are no longer keeping each other at arm's length. Before New Mexicans go along with where the party is leaning, they ought to look at what the DSA actually demands in its own published platform—and translate that polite political language into what it means for your rights, your work, and your property.

What DSA's Language Really Means for New Mexicans

The DSA's official national platform, Workers Deserve More, is dressed up in soothing slogans. Strip away the packaging, and every major plank requires taking rights, property, or representation away from ordinary Americans:

DSA Platform Definition What It Actually Means for You
Bringing "the largest corporations" and "essential industries" into "public ownership," and removing energy, food, medicine, and transportation from private business. Stripping private owners, founders, and shareholders of their companies. If you have a 401(k), an IRA, or a state pension invested in American energy or business, or if you work in New Mexico’s private oil and gas sector, the government either confiscates that equity or forces a taxpayer-funded buyout so politicians and bureaucrats can run the industry.
"Universal rent control," "strict regulation of investment properties," and moving toward "publicly owned social housing". Punishing families who saved to buy a rental property or build generational wealth through real estate, while pushing the housing market under government control.
"Drafting a new constitution," "abolishing the Senate," and replacing the president and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary "chosen by and subordinate to Congress". Taking away your constitutional checks and balances. Abolishing the Senate strips a smaller state like New Mexico of its equal voice alongside California and New York. Making the Supreme Court subordinate to Congress means your Fifth Amendment property rights and constitutional freedoms exist only until a bare majority of politicians votes to take them away.
Redirecting police funding toward public services as steps toward "fully abolishing the police and prison system," plus "abolishing ICE". Eliminating law enforcement, prisons, and border enforcement without any credible explanation of who stops an armed criminal, investigates a murder, or enforces the law.
Slashing the defense budget, closing all foreign U.S. military bases, and withdrawing from NATO. Gutting the military deterrence that protects the United States—and threatens the defense installations and national laboratories that anchor New Mexico’s economy.

No Track Record of Success—and Massive Stakes for America

There is no documented case in modern history where a nation eliminated its constitutional checks, stripped private ownership across its essential industries, and abolished its police and prisons to produce better economic conditions, better housing, or greater financial security. Even the Scandinavian countries that socialists love to cite rely on free-market capitalism, private property rights, and private businesses to pay for their government programs.

Furthermore, the United States is not Denmark. America maintains the military that deters global adversaries, and the U.S. dollar serves as the world's primary reserve currency—accounting for nearly 57% of global foreign exchange reserves in 2026. Global trust in the dollar rests on the rule of law, stable constitutional courts, and secure private property rights. Threatening to seize major industries and subordinate the courts to Congress would shatter that trust, driving up inflation and borrowing costs for every family in New Mexico.

Questions for Democratic Voters—and for Stansbury

Nixon has tried to soften the blow by saying she agrees with many DSA positions but not its entire platform. That is a convenient dodge. When you voluntarily join an organization during a U.S. Senate race, you are helping legitimize and advance its agenda.

For New Mexico Democrats, this is a moment to pause and look at where your party's leaders are taking you:

And New Mexicans should ask Melanie Stansbury a few direct questions of her own: Why is she getting so cozy with a DSA Senate candidate? Who is paying for her travel across the country to campaign? And which parts of the DSA agenda is she helping bring into the state of New Mexico?
